Way of the Cross

1500 5th North, New Ulm, MN 56073

April - October

For more than a century, the Way of the Cross has offered visitors a peaceful place for reflection, prayer, and quiet walks in New Ulm.

Completed in 1904 and renovated in 2004, the site features 14 Stations of the Cross with statues imported from Bavaria, Germany. The stations follow a gentle hillside path leading to the Chapel of the Mother of Sorrows, creating a serene setting for spiritual reflection and appreciation of the surrounding landscape.

Located on 5th North Hill behind the New Ulm Medical Center, the Way of the Cross also includes a memorial to Father Alexander Berghold, an influential priest who worked alongside Sister Flavia of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ to bring the project to life.

Visitors of all faiths are welcome to walk the path, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and experience one of New Ulm’s most unique historic and religious landmarks.

Location: 1500 5th North, New Ulm, Minnesota

Hours: Open daily year-round. The chapel is open April through October.
