Flowers Help Keep Downtown Vibrant
Downtown Flowers

The flowers in downtown New Ulm have been planted! These flowers are really a community effort and we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved to make these flowers happen.

New in 2023 – the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes funded the majority of the cost of the downtown flowers. Our funeral home is a community-owned co-op and is already uniquely connected to New Ulm. They donated funds in honor of the families they served last year. There are 282 plaques in the baskets and pots in remembrance of the 282 people who passed away in 2022. What a beautiful way to honor these loved ones!

The City of New Ulm, the New Ulm Garden Club, Jim & Jayne Hulke, Brian & Mary Lou Serbus, Sharon Heck, and Florian & Rosmary Dittrich (in memory of Ellie Dittrich) also contributed towards the cost of the flowers. Thank you for your support! If you’d like to donate, please stop by the Chamber Office or send a check to PO Box 384, New Ulm, MN 56073.

Of course, none of this could happen without our volunteers! Shout-out to the New Ulm Education Association (teachers!) who cleaned all the pots and got them ready to plant, to Sertoma Club of New Ulm for planting the pots on Broadway, and to the volunteers with the New Ulm Garden Club, Chamber, and community members who spent the evening planting on Minnesota Street. Finally, thank you to all the volunteers who water these flowers daily (sometimes twice a day on the really hot days!) throughout the summer months. Flower watering is done through a volunteer program with the city of New Ulm, and they are still looking for additional volunteers. If you can help, please contact volunteer coordinator Keith Rolloff at 276-2240 or rolloff@newulmtel.net.

Thank you again to everyone who is involved and helping continue to keep our downtown the vibrant and thriving place that it is! #NewUlmStrong
