Get Ready to Dig In: Spikin’ in the Street Is Back

Get ready to dig, spike and dive! The 4th Annual Spikin’ in the Street Downtown Sand Volleyball Tournament returns Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, transforming two blocks of downtown Minnesota Street into a beach volleyball arena featuring eight courts and approximately 1,300 tons of sand.

Registration is officially full, with teams from across the region preparing to compete in the A, B, C and Recreational divisions. Each division will begin with pool play before advancing to a single-elimination tournament.

When you visit the site:

  • Brackets – Follow pool standings and watch the tournament brackets update live as matches are completed throughout the weekend.
  • My Schedule – Search by your team name or captain’s name to view your personalized pool play schedule. Once bracket play is set, your first bracket match will also appear here.
  • Teams – View all registered teams organized by division.

Friday Night Beach Party and Tournament Kickoff

The fun begins Friday evening with the Spikin’ in the Street Beach Party from 5–11 p.m. New this year, Division C will begin pool play Friday night at approximately 6 p.m. The evening will also feature food, beverages, music and the return of Rolling Thunder Wrestling’s Downtown Throwdown.

A Full Day of Volleyball Saturday

Tournament play begins at 7 a.m. Saturday and will continue throughout the day, with the final matches expected to conclude around 10:30 or 11 p.m. Registration, commemorative merchandise and tournament information will be located at Nuvera, 27 N. Minnesota Street.

Food Vendors 11am – 11pm (unless otherwise noted): 

There are also several restaurants, cafés and other dining options located within blocks of the tournament. Stop inside for a break from the action or grab something to enjoy while watching the games. Click here for a list of downtown member restaurants!

Come Join the Fun

Not playing this year? Spectators are encouraged to come downtown and enjoy the action! Bring a lawn chair, grab something to eat or drink from participating vendors and downtown businesses, and cheer on the teams. There will also be designated areas where children can play in the sand.

Please remember that coolers and outside food or beverages are not allowed. Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event. Spikin’ in the Street will be held rain or shine.

Spikin’ in the Street is privately funded through the support of local businesses and organized by volunteers and the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce. Funds raised through the event support the promotion of New Ulm and the efforts of the New Ulm Business & Retail Association.
