New Member: New Ulm Fire Department

The Willkommen Committee of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed the New Ulm Fire Department (NUFD) as a new member. Their membership was sponsored by 3M.  Established in 1870, the New Ulm Fire Department now has three companies, two stations and 42 volunteer firefighters. The fire department has two full time positions, Fire Chief Paul Macho and Administrative Assistant Kristi Hose. Fire Chief Macho reports it cost around $8,000 to train and outfit a volunteer firefighter.  On average, NUFD responds to approximately 120 fire calls per year and its volunteers complete over 5,000 hours of training, meetings or volunteer service.  During Fire Prevention Week, firefighters also volunteer for school visits, open house, pizza night and the smoke trailer presentations. The NUFD is always looking for qualified applicants to join the Department.  If you are interested please visit, newulmmn.gov/221/recruitment, or call 507-359-8225 for more information.  The NUFD’s main station is located at 526 8th North Street.
