The Willkommen Committee of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce, paid a visit to the Martin
Luther College, Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) at 405 N. Highland Ave, to welcome the new
Director, Melissa Berg. Melissa Berg grew up in the Midwest as the daughter of two teachers. She
attended St. Stephen Lutheran School and public high school before enrolling at Martin Luther College as
both an elementary and early childhood education major. She graduated in 2003 and was assigned to be
assistant director and toddler teacher at LaCrescent Christian Childcare Center in LaCrescent, MN.

In 2004, she was blessed to marry Timothy Berg. The couple spent the first sixteen years of Tim’s
ministry in two different towns in South Dakota, where Melissa first stayed home with their three
children: Hannah, Isaiah, and Chloe and later returned to teaching in the second grade classroom and
subbing in preschool in the summers. Melissa began serving as director at the MLC ECLC in June of
2022. Melissa is excited to work with ECLC staff, student teachers, and the MLC early childhood
professors in preparing the next generation to go out and share the good news of Jesus with God’s littlest
lambs and their families.

The ECLC center assists parents in nurturing the growth of children 6 weeks old to children 5 years old,
in a Christian environment. They have the capacity for 60 Preschoolers, 21 Toddlers, and 12 Infants.
Melissa notes the high demand for their services and have accepted enrollment for babies that aren’t
even born yet. The Center is open Monday thru Friday from 7:00am to 5:30pm. For more information,
