The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Windings has been named Large Business of the Year and KNUJ has been named the Small Business of the Year. An awards banquet to celebrate this distinction will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at the Best Western Plus Conference Center.
Since 1974, the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce has recognized businesses in the New Ulm Area for their Chamber involvement, community involvement and economic impact in the area. A variety of businesses have been recognized over the years including both large employers, small businesses and retail stores. Chamber Members voted their choice for this recognition at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting held in March.
Windings was established in New Ulm in 1965 and has continued to grow. It now operates a production space of 75,000 square feet. In 2008 the company became 100-percent employee owned. The higher sense of responsibility that comes with employee ownership has made Windings even more responsive to customer needs and continues to foster innovation along with a desire to bring ever-increasing value.
KNUJ AM 860 went on the air May 22, 1949. The radio station was originally owned by the same company that owned the New Ulm Journal, hence the call letters K–New-Ulm-Journal. KNUJ. The station operates at 317 N. Minnesota next to the Glockenspiel and is owned by Ingstad Media. The company also operates Tower Storage and KNUJ Trips and Tours.
