Fasching / Schell’s Bock Fest

Join us for these events that give everyone something to look forward to amid a long, cold winter.

Fasching - Saturday, February 22, 2020

Fasching is an old carnival tradition that originated in the European Alps to chase away winter. Each year, strips of cloth are strung across downtown streets in the German peasant tradition, and the “Narren,” masked characters in colorful costumes, walk the streets inviting people to the party. Held at the Best Western Plus, Fasching includes music, food and dancing, and costumes are encouraged. 507-354-8850.

Also on Saturday, February 22 is the 2nd annual Arctic Plunge - held right downtown New Ulm!  Minnesota Street is closed and pungers jump into a tank right in the street! Proceeds stay local (benefiting the New Ulm Fire Department).

Bock Fest - Saturday, March 7, 2020

Schell’s Bock Fest takes place outdoors on the grounds of the August Schell Brewery, the second-oldest family-owned brewery in the US and the largest brewery in MN. Enjoy an award-winning beer or root beer beside a big bonfire and a few thousand friends.  Resounding olde-time music from The Bockfest Boys, playing traditional Germanic and popular music, including such favorites as Ein Prosit and Ring of Fire.  The highlight of the day is the Bock Medallion Hunt, when participants use clues to find the “bocks” (a gruff and stubborn goat of winter), to win cash and merchandise prizes.  www.schellsbrewery.com, 507-354-5528
