In the mid-1800s, the banks of the river near Riverside Park welcomed steamboats carrying soldiers, supplies and German settlers. Today it is home to the Riverside History & Nature Learning Center, housed in the old Franklin School building. The Center hosts a multitude of hands-on displays for visitors. Information and photo about riverboats, the clamming industry, and river fishing are all readily available. The Center is kid friendly and they will love the “pirate ship” playground outside!
