The Willkommen Committee recently met with owner Nick Simon, who launched Simon Accounting Solutions after several years working as a CPA in New Ulm. Nick began his career at a local firm and later partnered with longtime family friend Pat Herzog. When Pat retired last summer—around the same time Nick and his wife were preparing to welcome their second child—Nick made the decision to start his own practice and continue serving local clients independently.

Simon Accounting Solutions has been in its current location for about a year and has retained many long-time individual clients, while also expanding services for small businesses. The team includes Nick, his mother-in-law Dino, who assists with tax input and payroll, and Kali Loverude, who joined in November and supports tax preparation and bookkeeping. In addition to tax services, the firm offers payroll, bookkeeping, and fractional CFO services, helping small businesses with cash flow planning and financial decision-making so they can operate with greater confidence.

Nick shared that many small businesses in the area are underserved in these areas, especially as there is a growing shortage of tax professionals in the region. Simon Accounting Solutions is currently accepting new clients and prides itself on being accessible and responsive—often meeting clients where it’s most convenient for them. Outside of work, Nick also helps on his family’s farm, which is nearing century-farm status.
