The Willkommen Committee of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce recently visited The Backerei and Coffee Shop to celebrate its grand re-opening following a beautiful remodel.
Owners Amanda and Bill Hacker purchased the German bakery in 2019 and have worked hard to honor its nearly 95-year tradition while introducing exciting new offerings for the community. The remodel includes new seating, an updated bathroom, and a modernized coffee bar featuring cold brew from Beans Coffee in Mankato, frappes, smoothies, lotus drinks, and espresso coming soon. Known for being “more than just donuts,” The Backerei now offers breakfast sandwiches, grab-and-go lunch options, desserts, and Bridgeman’s ice cream—making it a true gathering spot for locals and visitors alike.
With a dedicated team of 26 employees and decades-old recipes still at the heart of their menu, The Backerei continues to blend tradition with innovation as it looks ahead to its 100-year milestone.
The shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Located at 27 S Minnesota Street, if you’re interested in learning more, visit their website or call (507) 354-6011.
Congratulations, The Backerei & Coffee Shop, and thank you for your continued investment in New Ulm!
