We are thrilled to share that the New Ulm Farmers Market has been awarded a grant from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture! This generous support will help us continue to grow and better serve our community – and we have some exciting new offerings to announce.
Free Transportation to the market
Thanks to this grant funding, we’re partnering with Hermann Express & Heartland Express to provide free transportation directly to and from the Farmers Market. This program makes it easier than ever for community members to access fresh, local food – no car required!
Free rides are available for every market day:
– Thursdays, 2:30-5:30pm
– Saturdays, 9am-12pm
(June 19 – Oct 11)
How to get a free ride:
Hermann Express: Hop on at any of Hermann Express’s regular stops (view the bus route and times here) and ride to the Market (drop-off/pick-up is at 1st South & Minnesota Street). Just let the driver know you’re headed to the Farmers Market! When you’re ready to leave, catch the bus at its scheduled stop time near the market and head back to where you started.
Note: Only rides to and from the Farmers Market are free. (Please note that the start time on Saturday is 10 am)
Heartland Express: Get picked up right at your door and dropped off at the Farmers Market – completely free! Rides must be scheduled at least one business day in advance, but you can request a ride up to 14 days ahead of time. Same-day rides may be available if the schedule allows. (Please note Heartland Express is closed on Saturdays)

Note: This free ride service is only valid for trips to and from the market.
Supporting SNAP/EBT & Market Accessibility
The grant will also strengthen the Market’s existing Nutrition Assistance programs, including SNAP/EBT, Market Bucks, FMNP, and Power of Produce (PoP). These initiatives help break down economic barriers and ensure that everyone in our community can enjoy healthy, locally grown produce. Plus, EBT card holders can triple their dollars at the market! $10 EBT = $10 Market Tokens + $10 Market Bucks + $10 Produce Bucks, Click here for more information regarding SNAP/EBT.
New Runner Services Available
To make shopping even more convenient, we’ll be offering complimentary runner services at every Thursday Market from 2:30 – 4:00pm. Runners will be available to assist individuals in carrying purchases to their vehicles or the bus stop. Most of the runners are students from our community – just look for them wearing orange vests!
Loyalty Punch Card Program
The Farmers Market Committee is excited to introduce a Loyalty Punch Card Program for the 2025 season! Get rewarded for shopping local all summer long! The prize? Products, gift certificates, and items donated by your 2025 Farmers Market vendors!
Here’s how it works:
- Shoppers can pick up a punch card at the Market Manager booth, or at one of our Steering Committee Members’ booths (Guldan Family Farm, Sugar Shanty, Woof ’em Down Bakery).
- Each time they attend the market, they’ll receive one stamp—no purchase necessary.
- Once they collect 20 stamps, they’ll be entered into a grand prize drawing at the end of the season!
“Farm-To-Fun Days” at the Market!
We are planning to make every market an experience for shoppers and the community. Almost every market will feature live music, and we’re adding kids activities and more to various markets throughout the season (especially on Saturdays). One Saturday a month, June-Sept, will be a special “Farm-To-Fun Day” at the market, where there will be extra family-friendly activities! These dates are: June 21, July 26, August 16, and September 27. Families, mark your calendars for those dates now! The full schedule of vendors and activities for every market can be found on the Farmers Market website (www.newulm.com/FarmersMarket). Click here for a flyer for the June 21st Farm-To-Fun Day.

Local businesses and organizations – do you want to get involved? Provide an activity (kid’s crafts, games, scavenger hunt, hands-on activity, etc). Non-profits can attend for free and promote themselves, as long as they have an activity to add to the market experience. For-profit businesses can also have a presence if they become a Farmers Market Sponsor. Sponsorship Opportunities are a benefit of Chamber Membership, and only available to Chamber Members.
