The Willkommen Committee recently visited with Teutonic Tales and Trails to celebrate their new business and Chamber membership. Teutonic Tales and Trails, owned and operated by Sarah Sveine, is a local company that hosts tours of Downtown New Ulm led by local expert Terry Sveine. Sarah, Terry’s daughter-in-law, originally from Sioux Falls, graduated from high school in Hutchinson before meeting Terry’s son in college. After joining the family, she would always see Terry busy giving tours around New Ulm and fielding phone calls. She decided that Terry needed a manager. She streamlined the process, made it into a business, and her and Terry put together an entirely new tour focusing on the history of certain buildings in the Downtown area. Terry, born and raised in New Ulm, has served as its mayor, worked at the visitor center for numerous years, and led dozens, if not hundreds of tours throughout the years. He has also researched New Ulm history extensively.

Teutonic Tales and Trails has hopes of expanding to different kinds of tours as well. Tickets are available online, and they do three to four tours every month. They work with small groups of twenty or less to make it easier for everyone to keep up and hear Terry over the sounds of the busy downtown.
