“Off the Beaten Path”

These attractions are just out of town or offer a unique way to see things:

The Harkin Store is an authentic, surviving general store from 1870 and features many original items from that time with a lovely setting along the Minnesota River  and kids love it, too!  (It is 8 miles N.W. of New Ulm) Morgan Creek Vineyard offers tours and tasting, evenings of music and  festivals in a quiet, rural setting. Try their wood-fired oven pizzas! (They are 8 miles S.E. of New Ulm)

At the Visitor Center, there is a “Walking Tour” brochure that takes you through the most historic part of town, concentrating on sites related to the Dakota Conflict and the grand mansions built by the grain milling money in the later 1800s.

The Visitor Center also offers audio taped tours that describe the attractions and history of New Ulm from the comfort of your car. Go at your own pace with these tapes and they are only $5.00. Special arrangements can be made for groups.
