Be proactive on ADA: Increase access; avoid lawsuits

Minnesota Chamber of Commerce President Doug Loon writes a monthly column, and the focus of this month’s article is the ADA lawsuits and educational resources for removing accessibility barriers at your business. 

Many Minnesota small businesses, including some here in New Ulm, have been the target of lawsuits in the past two years by a few lawyers alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Legislation was passed this year that provides businesses with additional tools to fight these lawsuits, thanks to efforts of a broadbased coalition led by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and many local chambers.
